CPRACSIS – Conference on ‘Print Modernities’

The students of the department of English, Prajyoti Niketan College, Pudukad, attended an International Conference on 'Print Modernities' from the 30th August till 1st  September, 2018. The conference was organised by Centre for Performance, Research and Cultural Studies in South Asia (CPRACSIS). Students of 3rd BA English attended this conference, which was held at St. Thomas College, Thrissur. Gayathri Chakravarthy Spivak, Professor, Colombia University, NYC was the keynote speaker of the programme. The conference dealt with the print culture and how it had brought in drastic transformations in the realms of literature, art, religion, administration, science, education, culture, modes of communication and technology.

 

Start-up Programme - ‘Foundation Skills for Entrepreneurship’

IEDC (Innovative and Entrepreneurship Development Cell) and the Department of English, Prajyoti Niketan College, Pudukad organised a two day workshop on 'Foundation Skills for Entrepreneurship' on the 18th and 19th of September 2018 at Assisi Hall. Mr A.R Ramachandran, Master Trainer, of ICT Academy, Kerala chaired as the main resource person. Students from various colleges and departments attended the programme. The camp intended on developing the new and innovative ideas of the students. The programme was a success considering the amount of innovative ideas that the students brought up in different fields that included arts and technology.

 

Drama and Poetry Adaptation

On the 9th of October, 2018, the students of the English department joined hands with the department of Psychology to stage a play 'Something Unspoken' by Tennessee Williams as  part of academic development through visual aids. The students restructured and edited the play to a concise time limit of 15 minutes. The play was entitled “A Bold New Version of Tennessee Williams’ ‘Something Unspoken’: Betrayed Silent Roses.”

As part of using the audio visual perception for studies, the students of English and Psychology departments presented a rock and remix version of the Nobel Prize Winner, Bob Dylan’s  ‘Times They are a'Changing'. The students used keyboards and guitars to enhance the quality of the music. The programme was staged for all the first year students of the College in the auditorium.

 

One day Workshop on  ‘Language, Culture, Identity and Society'

The department of English held a one day workshop on ‘Language, Culture, Identity and Society' on 4th December, 2018 in the auditorium. Inauguration  Dr Arunkala Ao, Assistant Professor, Amity University, Noida. - The workshop lecture was delivered by Dr Arunkala Ao, Assistant Professor, Amity University, Noida. The lecture was held in the auditorium of the college, and the students of English department attended the programme. The talk concentrated on   'Unfixing the Fixed' through the cultural aspects observed in our society, the various dimensions of language and its repercussions in the society

 

Placement Training Inauguration Mr.Jomy P.L Director,IMSThe Department of Computer Science conducted a Placement Training on  December 6, 2018 in association with CSCTA (Computer Science College Teachers Association), for the sudents of  BCA, Bsc Computer Science and Bsc IT of various colleges in Thrissur Region. 120 studetns from 19 colleges participated. Mr.Jomy P.L., Director, IMS Learning Centre, Thrissur inaugurated the programme and handled the forenoon session ' Aptitude Problem Solving Skills' and the  afternoon session 'Interview Skills and Mock Interview' was handled by Mr. Gopakumar and Rajesh from  TIME Institute, Thrissur.
