INFRASTRUCTURE OF PRAJYOTI NIKETAN

The College at present has five departments functioning in two Academic Blocks. The Main Block houses the Departments of Computer Science, Electronics and Commerce as well as the Principal’s office, College office, Conference Hall and Library.

The Ground floor houses the College Office, Principal’s room, Electronics lab, Staff room, two Electronics and four Commerce class rooms as well as 7 teachers‘ cabins. The Computer lab, Staff room, three class rooms for Computer Science students and one for Electronics students, along with one seminar hall exists in the first floor.

The Library functions as a separate floor on the Main block itself. Below the library are the Language lab, the Ladies‘ rest room and a tailoring unit.Ten computers are set up in the Library exclusively for online access of information through which staff and students are free to access DELNET, NLIST, E-journals, open access journals and other databases from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm on all working days.

The second block, in four floors, houses the Psychology and English staff rooms, a Seminar hall, 3 class rooms each for BA English and BSc Psychology, 2 MSc Psychology class rooms, the Psychology Lab and a Counselling Centre. There is also an open stage in this block, meant mainly for the conduct of public functions.

To facilitate state-of-the-art teaching and learning, LCD projectors, active boards, computer with LAN and Internet connectivity, 4 mbps with Wi-Fi facility are made available. The Seminar hall is well equipped for conducting classes with multimedia presentations. All the computers in the Language Lab are equipped with internet connectivity. Internet facility is available in the Library also. All teachers are provided with separate computers with LAN and uninterrupted Internet connectivity.

OTHER FACILITIES

The campus, which is spread over an area of 24 acres, is set atop a hill and is surrounded by rubber trees on one side and hundreds of other varieties of flora on the other.There is a Basketball Court and a Football Ground facing the two academic blocks. A Gymnasium has been set up in the campus, and boys and girls are allotted separate timings for using the same. The spacious Auditorium Complex with two green rooms on both sides of the stage is a separate building away from the Academic Blocks and serves as the venue for all co-curricular activities.

Apart from the two green rooms, there are four dressing/make-up rooms underground for girl students, which they make use of for dance and drama competitions. The Complex stands in two floors with eleven well furnished guest rooms, each with attached bath rooms. These rooms are occasionally occupied by sports students when they have to stay back late for practice.

The Auditorium Complex is a structure that is highly innovative and eco-friendly in its design. The entire hall is open at the sides, allowing free flow of fresh air. Shutters are installed so that the hall can be closed during the monsoon season. The entire roof is built with a type of bamboo which is specially treated for the purpose, with the result that the hall is always airy and cool.

The balcony of the Auditorium serves as an ideal environment for yoga practice. The complex also has suitable areas and furniture conducive for indoor games like chess and caroms. There exists a mini swimming pool adjacent to the Auditorium. The state-of-the-art Holy Family Hall that is an extension of the Auditorium is used for staff /administrative meetings and group dynamics for personality growth. The NSS wing of the College has a separate office to itself. Two units of NSS function in the College.

INFRASTRUCTURE POLICY

Prajyoti Niketan College aims to develop high-tech campus with modern facilities/learning resources as per the curriculum requirements and norms of statutory/regulatory bodies. The College provides resources and infrastructure for academic excellence according to its vision and strategic objectives. The College has a policy for the creation and enhancement of infrastructure in order to promote a good teaching learning environment. The policy is implemented through Strategic and Annual Academic Planning conducted in the departments and in IQAC. Respective departments submit departmental requirements to IQAC. After discussion and as per needs, IQAC forwards it to Principal and College Purchase Committee. On receiving approval, execution is made. Some of the key concerns are:

  • Upgrade the IT infrastructure regularly in view of the recent developments and change in technology to meet the teaching – learning requirements.
  • Learning resources, curriculum, session plan, class time table, recorded lectures, assignments, assessment, student feedback etc. can be made available online for enhancing the teaching-learning experience.
  • Providing more facilities to Mental Health Clinic, Computer Lab, Language Lab, Electronics Lab and Psychology Lab etc. for providing hands on experience to the students.
  • The library serves as a rich workspace for students to do research and reference. To facilitate better referencing, the Library can serve as an integrated Knowledge Resource Centre that are stocked with sufficient books, periodicals, references, national and international journals, CD-ROMs etc. covering all aspects of academic studies and research material. Free WI-FI, internet access, free download and printout facility have to be provided.
  • To provide excellent sports facilities and opportunities to students for regular work-out, Lifestyle management and interaction.
  • To establish a dedicated maintenance department responsible for carrying out the duties like the maintenance of buildings, class rooms, laboratories, hostels, cafeterias, sports facilities, utilities, lawns etc. The departments should have qualified and skilled manpower for civil work, electric work, plumbing, carpentry work etc.
  • Reprographic, Photocopy services, Books Stationary facilities, Departmental Store etc. is to be provided.
  • To equip with full-fledged audio-visual equipment and a digital projection system in college auditorium and to maintain it as the stage for numerous important programmes throughout the year.
  • Girls hostel guarded by 24 hours security and facilities like veg non-veg cuisine and free Wi-Fi etc.
  • Enhancement of Psychology research centre and its related facilities.
  • Promoting start-up related activities and trying to get incubation centres with the support of Kerala Start Up mission.
