National Service Scheme (NSS) inculcates the spirit of volunteerism among the students through community interaction. Prajyoti Niketan College, Pudukad have two NSS Units 85 and 183, both units are actively doing their services under the leadership of NSS Programme officers Dr Soumya Starlet C T and Dr Binoj Jose. Being a part in NSS, makes the spirit of volunteerism thrive among hundred volunteers. The unit has its own clear concepts on how to lend a helping hand to the society and their upliftment.Unit has its own vegetable garden at the College and each volunteer takes care of the garden and are contributing roughly to make the program, Green Campus Campaign a success. Cleaning works are done in every nook and corner of the College as a part of clean campus program and to make the College premises ecofriendly.

Our unit organizes several sessions for the volunteers to develop their personality and nurture their own skills. The unit is involved in many socially engaging programs. At the time of flood many of our volunteers were there for post flood cleaning programmes and collected flood relief items for land sliding areas like Nilamboor and Vayanad. The volunteers took on an awareness program at the local railway station to educate people on online ticket registration and also engaged in railway station cleaning activities. As part of World car -free day event volunteers performed various events like flashmob, streetplay, tug of war, slow-cycling race, took part in Vimukthi program, palliative care day event which was held at St. Thomas College, Thrissur. NSS units Received special appreciation from Excise Dpt. In relation to Vimukthi Anti-drug  Programme. Cloth bag, Paper bag and paper pen making worshops were conducted to the NSS volunteers and all of them were equipped with these skills.

Internal world days were observed by our volunteers with various programmes like World Environment Day, Reading Day, Yoga Day, Antidrug Day, Independence Day, Children’s Day, Constitution day, Aides Day, NSS day, Volunteers Day and so on. Blood Donation Camps and Eye camps are always been organized by NSS volunteers.

Each year there will be Seven Day Special Residential Camping Programme for NSS volunteers at different places outside the college. The Major activities include Personality development classes, Eye camp, Cleaning activities, Vegetable gardening, Awareness on plastic use and waste management, River side road development and cleaning, Paper pen making training, Old age home visit, field visits, awareness programme, Discussions, debates, Cultural activities, which will focus on the overall personality development of each NSS Volunteer.

NSS volunteer Daya Sudhan represented India in Indian Youth delegation to Tajikistan from Sept 17- to Sept 27, 2019. She also selected as Best NSS volunteer in Calicut University, 2019.

During lockdown , each volunteers were assigned with different tasks such as videos and posters related to COVID -19 to create awareness, mask making were done by each individuals at their own home and were collected and given for supply at authorised hands. Moreover, new saplings were planted and many of the volunteers did craftworks as a part of lockdown programme.
