The Department of Commerce, the youngest academic wing of Prajyoti Niketan College, Pudukad, was established in the year 2013 with the launch of its Aided B.Com Finance Programme, affiliated to the University of Calicut. From its humble beginnings, the department has grown into a vibrant and dynamic space of academic excellence and holistic student development.
In 2024, aligning with the New Education Policy and the revised curriculum structure of the University of Calicut, the department transitioned to the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP), now offering a B.Com Honours Programme with a specialization in Finance. This upgraded curriculum enhances both academic depth and industry relevance, empowering students with broader knowledge, practical skills, and improved career readiness.
Our department stands distinguished in academics, arts, sports, and extension activities. Over the years, we have consistently conducted National and International Seminars, Workshops, Training Programs, Field Visits, Internships, and even hosted a Mega Job Fair, reflecting our commitment to creating immersive and industry-connected learning experiences.
We also offer three industry-aligned Certificate Courses:
- Excel Skills for Business
- Certified in Tally Prime
- Certified in GST Return Filing
In addition, two Bridge Courses are conducted each year to strengthen the foundation of our first-year students:
- Introduction to Financial Accounting
- Introduction to Mercantile Law
Our robust mentoring system and an active Commerce Association foster a culture of belonging, leadership, and collaborative growth. Through personal mentoring, career guidance, and student-led initiatives, we ensure that every learner receives the support needed to realize their potential—academically and personally.
We are also proud of maintaining a pass percentage of over 93% since inception, a testament to the tireless dedication of our faculty and the sincere efforts of our students.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all our teaching and non-teaching staff, our students—past and present—and our ever-supportive alumni community. Your continued commitment and collaboration have helped shape the department’s identity and success.
With great optimism, I look forward to the Department of Commerce reaching even greater heights in the years to come. May we continue to inspire, innovate, and make meaningful contributions to the academic and social fabric of our institution and beyond.
Warm regards,
Dr. Alan Lukose
Head of the Department
