The English department conducts an Add-On Certificate Course on “Communication Skills in English.” This course has successfully run its course since 2013, taking into consideration the need of the hour. Language is a tool with which creative ideas can be triggered off in productive minds. Though General English courses are offered for all the subjects in the curriculum, there is a special need for a specifically relevant programme that caters to the need of learning and teaching the English language, in order to develop the latent talents of the students in the college and to facilitate better communication skills. The syllabus of the course includes phonetics, grammar, vocabulary enhancement practice, techniques to develop critical thinking skills, interactive sessions on communication in daily life and sessions on general awareness. With an annual pass percentage of above 95%, this programme has a lot of takers. This course is sanctioned by the University of Calicut, and students who successfully clear the examination, receive a Course Certificate from the University.
