Prayerful Silver Jubilee Wishes to Dr Shaijan Paul and Dr Sonia Sunny

Twenty five glorious years of service in an institution is not a small task. The fete becomes all the more profound as it is the sacred field of academics. It is none other than Dr Shaijan Paul, Principal of Prajyoti Niketan College who had completed 25 years of meritorious service in Prajyoti Niketan College. The College had been re-accredited with A Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) during his tenure in 2016.

An able administrator and a charismatic visionary, Dr Shaijan Paul had brought forth many a laurel to the institution. Having been instrumental in qualitatively enhancing the academic prospects of students, Dr Shaijan had created ideal pedagogical benchmarks for Prajyoti Niketan. His midas touch had enabled Prajyoti Niketan College to carve a niche in the academic map of Calicut University. Fine Arts, Sports and Academics had attained an added sheen during his tenure. He is the master brain behind the 30 lakh worth Air-conditioned auditorium with perfect acoustics. The Psychology Block also had been perfectly renovated with state-of-the-art technology. Rs 10 lakh worth Open Air stage is an added attraction. The Psychology Lab had also been overhauled effectively. Under the dynamic leadership of Shaijan sir, in the backdrop of Covid-19, a Multimedia Studio is under construction to enable Prajyoti fraternity to organize online activities in an effective manner. His stewardship had guarded the Prajyoti ship from wrecking during times of crises. Being the only mixed college in Kerala without politics, it had been a herculean task for Dr Shaijan to brave the external pressures for campus politics. His foresight coupled with the convictions of teaching-non teaching staff and students of Prajyoti had denied entry to campus-politics, lock, stock and barrel. He also guides and pro-actively supports the teaching and non-teaching staff of the institution.

In the Silver Jubilee Year, the Prajyoti brethren wholeheartedly wishes him all the best and prays that the God Almighty shower his choicest blessings on him abundantly. Hailing from Nalukettu, a beautiful village near Koratty, Dr Shaijan Paul is a family man living happily with his better half Ms Beena, HSST at St Antony’s School, Pudukad and two daughters – Ann Liya, who is a Post Graduate in English from St Joseph’s College, Devagiri, Kozhikode and Ann Ciya, a school student.

The whole Prajyoti fraternity wishes Dr Sonia Sunny, the Vice Principal of Prajyoti Niketan College and the Head of the Dept of Computer Science heartfelt congrats and prayers on her completing 25 fruitful years of service at Prajyoti.

The Dept of Computer Science has played a pivotal role in the history of Prajyoti Niketan College during the Covid-19 pandemic era. Today the imparting of online classes to students is a cakewalk for Prajyoti academics. The FDP ‘Reconnect and Teach’ organized by the CS Dept during the month of May had trained all academics of Prajyoti with the ‘tricks of the trade’ which means the ABC of online teaching. Painstakingly, the whole dept had burned the midnight oil for making matters easier for the lesser techies in the campus. This Faculty Development Programme happened thanks to the foresight of Dr Sonia Sunny, the vibrant and energetic Head of the Dept of Computer Science. The teachers of several Kendriya Vidyalayas and other schools were also fortunate to enhance their technical expertise by dint of CS Dept comprising Dr Sonia Sunny, Ms Ceena Mathews, Dr Binu P Chacko, Ms Rincy T A and Ms Deepthi Pisharody. Dr Sonia had been a fighter throughout. Brimming with youthful enthusiasm, this popular teacher often maintains a close rapport with students. Two years before, on her birthday, the alumnae of the dept had donated 40 chairs to the Computer Lab. The students of CS Dept often celebrates her birthday with much fanfare. She has been a Board of Studies member of Calicut University, Christ College, Irinjalakuda and St Joseph’s College, Irinjalakuda. The greatest blessing of Dr Sonia is that she understands the pulse of her students very well. She had also taken the initiative to rehabilitate several students who were affected by floods. Assessing her acumen, Calicut University conferred MM Ghani Award on Dr Sonia in 2015. In 2018, Dr Sonia received the Best Science Teacher Award from the Madras based Venus International.

In the Silver Jubilee year of her service, the Prajyoti family salutes her and offers her their love, support and prayers. Dr Sonia Sunny lives in Ollur with her husband Mr Deepak George, AGM, Catholic Syrian Bank, Thrissur and three kids – Diya, an engineering student at Model Engineering College, Edappally, George, a plus two student and Juan, a school student.
