PROGRAMME OUTCOMES

The BA Programme equips the students with both the aesthetics and usage of English Language through the study of literature. The programme tries to inculcate in students certain critical traits expected in an academic ambience and also in a competent and complex world. Students are imparted training in Research, Analysis and Criticism involving cultural narratives from various historical periods and genres. Moreover, the study of the programme instills creativity, enhances intellectual flexibility, cultural literacy and accelerates the process of life-long learning.

PO1 – Aesthetic Competence – To equip students to appreciate, interpret and evaluate literature with a critical bend of mind and enable them to identify, analyze, interpret and evaluate the critical ideas, values, concepts and themes in literary and cultural texts and comprehend the patterns through which these ideas, values and themes influence society

PO2 – Art of Writing and Communication – To nurture students in such a way as to enable them to write analytically in varied formats like essays, research articles, literary pieces and critical reviews. In addition they should be trained to assimilate the process of interpreting and communicating human experiences through literary texts in interdisciplinary methodologies and historical milieux.

PO3 – Language Compatibility – To familiarize students with the latest trends in Language and inculcate in them awareness regarding key concepts of Linguistics. Moreover to help them master Queen’s English and motivate them to strive for accurate pronunciation and to improve the standard of pronunciation in usage.

PO4 – Knowledge and Fairness – To mould students into better citizens of the country the subject Journalism and Mass Communication is imparted as a complementary of BA English. It helps students to master a totally different field of expertise and increase their job prospects. This instills a specific career orientation and initiates them to barge into the world freely and fearlessly. They shall become ethically committed media professionals adhering to the human values, the Indian culture and the Global culture.

PO5 – Responsible Citizenry – To enlighten students with the basic tenets in Indian Constitution. Indian Constitution and Politics have given the students an additional advantage while pursuing their graduation. The constitutional know how regarding their rights and duties will instill a sense of righteousness and prudence in students enabling them to gain ability to make logical inferences on social and political issues.

COURSE OUTCOME : 

By the end of this course students will be able to:

  • Comprehend and appreciate  the language of literature, i.e., the meaning-making devices, verb phrases, collocations, linkers, sense groups and their functions in the literary text.
  • Identify and analyse linguistic structures of poetic texts: symbols, metaphors, and other tropes.
  • appreciate different voices/ points of view within a single text and analyse conflicting ideological positions
  • do a close reading of literary and cultural texts and to unravel the layers of meaning

  • To acquaint the students with the classic literatures and thereby composite cultures of the world
  • To enable students to develop cross cultural perspectives
  • To enhance the literary sensibility of students

  •  To understand how film connects with history, politics, technology, psychology and performance.
  • To critically appraise the nature of representation on screen and how class, race, ethnicity and sexuality are represented.
  • To develop analytical skills so that the student can produce informed and thorough close readings of films.

  • To sensitize the students on issues pertaining to the marginalized
  • To educate the students about the evolving patterns of generic and other technical possibilities that the marginalized use to represent their predicament.
  • To communicate to the students how marginality is very often a contextual factor related to

    socio-cultural reality.

  • To discuss how the question of marginality has evolved by giving space to new and till now avoided categories of outcastes, bodily and culturally and how such people develop their own styles of articulation and subsequent theoretical foundations

  • trace patterns of the technical as well as the generic possibilities of representation used by the marginalized.
  • locate the societal and cultural contexts of marginality.
  • chart the expansion of the spectrum of the marginalized to include new categories of outcastes.
  • outline the development of new forms of representation and critical theory associated with cultural and bodily integration of outcastes.
