PROGRAMMES OF COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

Duration: The duration of the B.Sc Computer Science Programme shall be six semesters distributed over a period of three academic years. The odd semesters (1, 3, 5) shall be from June to October and the even Semesters (2, 4, 6) shall be from November to March. Each semester shall have 90 working days inclusive of all examinations.
Courses: The UG programme shall include five types of courses, viz; Common Courses (Code A), Core courses (Code B), Complementary courses (Code C), Open Course (Code D) and Audit courses (Code E). Core Course-Computer Science Complementary course- Mathematics & Statistics

B.Sc. COMPUTER SCIENCE PROGRAMME OBJECTIVE

The basic objective of the Programme is to open a channel of admission for computing courses for students, who have done the 10+2 and are interested in taking computing/IT as a career. After acquiring the Bachelor‟s Degree (B.Sc. Computer Science) at University of Calicut, there is further educational opportunity to go for an MCA or other Master‟s Programme like MSc (Computer Science), MSc (IT), MBA, etc., at this university or at any other University/Institute. Also, after completing the B.Sc. Computer Science Programme, a student should be able to get entry level job in the field of Information Technology or ITES or they can take up self-employment in Indian & global software market. The specific objectives of the Programme include

  • To attract young minds to the potentially rich and employable field of computer applications.
  • To be a foundation graduate Programme this will act as a feeder course for higher studies in the area of Computer Science/Applications.
  • To develop skills in software development so as to enable the B.Sc Computer Science graduates to take up self-employment in Indian and global software market.
  • To train and equip the students to meet the requirements of the Software industry in the country and outside.

DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME

The minimum duration for completion of a four-semester PG Programme is two years. The maximum period for completion is 4 years. The duration of each semester shall be 90 working days, inclusive of examinations, spread over five months. Odd semesters shall be held from June to October and even semesters from November to March subject to the academic calendar of the University.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

  • The programme includes three types of courses, viz., Core courses(CodeC), Elective Courses (Code E) and Audit Courses (Code A).

OBJECTIVES

  1. To equip students to take up challenging research-oriented responsibilities and courses for their higher studies/profession.
  2. To train and equip the students to meet the requirements of the Software industry in the country and outside.
  3. To motivate and support the students to prepare and qualify to challenge competitive examinations such as JRF/NET/JAM/GATE etc

ADMISSION

  The admission to all M.Sc Computer Science programmes shall be as per the rules and regulations of the University. The eligibility criteria for admission shall be as announced by the University from time to time. Separate rank lists shall be drawn up for reserved seats as per the existing rules. There shall be a uniform calendar prepared by the University for the registration, conduct/schedule of the courses, examinations, and publication of results.

Department of Computer Science is offering a 30 hours certificate course entitled ‘PC  assembly and maintenance’ for students of the College. This course is designed to make students equipped with PC hardware components, its assembly and maintenance.
